Tensions were high during halftime in Arsenal’s Champions League quarterfinal second leg against Real Madrid, when Bukayo Saka and Dani Carvajal had to be removed after a furious exchange.
The incident happened as both teams were walking down the tunnel for the second half. Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal, who was injured and not playing grabbed the back of Saka’s neck sparking an angry reaction from the Arsenal star. Saka quickly turned around and shouted back with Carvajal even pointing his finger in Saka’s face.
Security and staff quickly stepped in to separate the two before things got out of hand. Saka headed down the tunnel while Carvajal was ushered back towards the pitch area.
A clip of the incident quickly went viral online, with fans reacting strongly to Carvajal’s actions. One fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Carvajal aggravating Saka at halftime,” while another added, “Playing mind gamesssss.”

Others mocked Carvajal for trying to cause drama while his team was trailing, with one fan saying: “You are getting destroyed, hence you make a fuss off the pitch. It’s so embarrassing LMAO.”
Saka had earlier missed a big chance to extend Arsenal’s lead. The England international won a penalty in the 13th minute but saw his effort saved by Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
Real Madrid thought they were going to get back into the game when they were awarded a penalty of their own. However, after a long VAR check, the decision was overturned due to an offside in the build-up leaving Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta relieved.
Despite the drama Arsenal remained in control and are now through to the Champions League semi-finals with a commanding lead.
