“He’s Perfect for Chelsea” – Joe Cole Urges Blues to Sign Kevin De Bruyne on Free Transfer
Joe Cole believes Kevin De Bruyne could be the experienced leader Chelsea need, suggesting the club should move quickly to sign him when his Manchester City contract ends this summer.

As Chelsea prepare for a big game against Fulham this weekend, former Blues midfielder Joe Cole has shared a surprising idea for the summer. He thinks Chelsea should bring Kevin De Bruyne back to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are now sixth in the Premier League rankings, with only six games remaining. They are only one point behind Manchester City in fifth and three behind Nottingham Forest in fourth. If Chelsea finishes in the top four, they will be eligible for the Champions League next season, which may help them sign big-name players in the summer.
And that’s where Joe Cole’s suggestion comes in.
“Kevin De Bruyne would be perfect for Chelsea,” Cole said during a chat on TNT Sports.
De Bruyne is set to leave Manchester City when his contract ends this summer. While he’s already played for Chelsea once before—between 2012 and 2014—Cole thinks now is the right time to bring him back.
“If I’m Chelsea, I’d sit down with him and say, ‘We need a leader and someone who knows how to win. That’s you,’” Cole explained. “Even if he can’t play every game, we might only need him for 30 games a season.”
Kevin De Bruyne deed not get much chance during his first spell at Chelsea. He played only a few games before leaving for Germany and then joined Manchester City. Since then, he have become one of the best midfielders in the world, winning several league titles, cups, and even playing in a Champions League final.
Now that he is 32 years old De Bruyne may not run as much as he used to but Cole believes his experience and leadership could help Chelsea’s young squad.
Chelsea already have exciting young players like Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernández, and Moisés Caicedo. But sometimes they’ve struggled in big matches. Adding a winner like De Bruyne could help the whole team grow and handle pressure better.
Chelsea’s head coach Enzo Maresca, likes to build smart and balanced teams. He used to work at Manchester City, so he already knows how De Bruyne plays.
If De Bruyne comes in, he wouldn’t need much time to adapt. He knows Maresca’s style and could quickly become a key player both on the pitch and in the dressing room.
Of course, a move like this depends on De Bruyne’s fitness. He has struggled with injuries this season. But if Chelsea qualify for the Champions League and show ambition in the transfer market, they could convince him to return.
