Another young goalkeeper, Mike Penders, is also in line for an opportunity. Chelsea signed Penders last summer but allowed him to stay at Genk, where he had developed through the academy. He has since become Genk’s first-choice goalkeeper and is gaining valuable experience.

With more matches under his belt, Penders will join Chelsea’s squad in the USA for the Club World Cup. This will be his chance to show the coaching staff what he can do and potentially compete for a spot in the first team.

While Chelsea’s young goalkeepers are preparing for their chance, the future of Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen is unclear.
