Chelsea star Cole Palmer has got fans talking after he posted a clip on Instagram that many believe was a clear and quiet message aimed at the manager Enzo Maresca.
The 22-year-old shared a video of one of his best goals — from a game last season where Chelsea won Everton 6-0 under former manager Mauricio Pochettino. Palmer scored four goals that day and looked like he was truly enjoying his football.
What got people’s attention, though, was the single word he added to the post: “enjoyment.”
Palmer is seen in the clip dancing past defenders, linking up nicely with Nicolas Jackson and scoring a cool finish past Jordan Pickford. Fans quickly reacted thinking he was showing love for Pochettino’s more relaxed style and hinting at frustration with Maresca’s current system.
Chelsea are fighting hard to finish in the top five this season, but their recent form has not helped. The 2-2 draw against relegation zone Ipswich at home only added to the pressure. Many fans now believe Palmer’s post was not just a throwback but a clear message.

While Palmer has not said anything directly the timing and message have definitely sparked debate. The style of football under Maresca is much stricter and controlled than under Pochettino who gave players like Palmer more freedom to express themselves.
In fact Maresca himself has made it clear that his players must follow instructions to the letter. After a 1-0 win over Leicester, he responded to fans booing Enzo Fernandez for passing backwards:
“If he doesn’t play back, I will change him. If the ‘keeper plays long, I will change him. This is what we have.”
It is clear Maresca has a very specific way of playing and players like Palmer might be struggling to adapt. The former Manchester City star has not scored a Premier League goal since January, and Chelsea desperately need him to find his spark again.
With Chelsea sitting sixth in the table and only one win in their last four league matches, Maresca is under pressure and posts like Palmer’s only add to the questions about what’s really going on inside the dressing room.
