Ian Wright Reveals What Man City Told Kevin De Bruyne Before Shock Decision to Leave Club After 10 Years

Kevin De Bruyne’s incredible journey at Manchester City looks like it’s coming to an end. The Belgian midfielder, who has become one of the club’s greatest ever players, is out of contract at the end of this season. After spending 10 successful years at the Etihad, the 33-year-old has decided it’s time to move on.

While fans are sad to see him go football pundit and former Arsenal striker Ian Wright believes De Bruyne’s decision was not made lightly. In fact he thinks Manchester City did everything they could to convince him to stay.

Speaking on The Kelly and Wrighty Show Ian Wright said he believes the club didn’t want to let De Bruyne go. But after so many years of intense football at the top level, De Bruyne might just be physically and mentally tired.

“I think it’s probably his decision. The club would probably keep him,” Wright explained. “He must be drained and finished now. This is an opportunity for him to go.”

Wright went on to suggest what City might have told their star player:

“I think Man City would’ve said to him, ‘Just stay, stay and shepherd it through.’ But I think he needs to move now, the way Kyle Walker has moved on. Maybe they’re just done physically and mentally in this situation.”

Wright compared De Bruyne’s situation to that of Walker, who joined AC Milan on loan in January. While it’s still not clear if Walker will stay in Italy permanently he is also expected to leave Man City at the end of the season.

Despite his age De Bruyne showed against Crystal Palace that he still has the ability to perform at the highest level. Alan Shearer praised his performance, saying it showed just how much love and passion he still has for the club.

Wright also made it clear that even though De Bruyne may be leaving, he’s still underrated by some fans. Wherever he goes nex, the fans will be watching.

After the game against Palace, De Bruyne didn’t rule out staying in England. Former player Don Hutchison even suggested that Liverpool might try to sign him, though that move seems very unlikely.

According to The Times, journalist Paul Hirst reported that De Bruyne will consider all options from European clubs before making a final decision. But there’s also strong interest from Saudi Arabia and Major League Soccer in the United States.

Reports say that De Bruyne prefers a move to the U.S., where he could join Inter Miami and possibly team up with Lionel Messi. That dream partnership could become reality this summer.

Whatever De Bruyne decides, there’s no doubt he will go down in history as one of Man City’s all-time greats. His vision, creativity, and leadership have helped the club win trophies and dominate English football for years.
