Manchester United U21s Match Against Tamworth Abandoned After Sekou Kone Head Injury

Manchester United’s Under-21 team had their match against Tamworth called off after young defender Sekou Kone suffered a serious head injury. The 19-year-old was stretchered off the pitch and taken out of the stadium for further medical care.
The incident happened late in the first half during a cup group-stage game at The Lamb Ground, Tamworth’s home stadium. Kone was defending a corner when he collided with another player and suffered a heavy blow to the head.
At first, Kone managed to get back to his feet. However, moments later, he collapsed back to the ground, prompting urgent calls for medical assistance. Physios and medical staff rushed onto the pitch and treated him for around 15 minutes.
The referee ended the first half early so that Kone could receive uninterrupted care. Once the player was stabilized, he was placed on a stretcher and taken from the field, leaving the stadium in an ambulance.
Initially, there were hopes the match could continue after a short break. However, the game could not resume because the ambulance had to leave with Kone, and a replacement vehicle was not immediately available. After discussions between officials and both teams, the match was officially abandoned.
The young Manchester United side is competing in Group A of this cup competition, where they are set to face Brackley Town, Rochdale, and Solihull Moors in their upcoming fixtures before the knockout stage begins.
The club has not yet provided a detailed update on Kone’s condition, but the decision to end the match highlighted the importance of player safety. Fans and teammates have expressed their concern for the defender’s wellbeing, with many sending messages of support.
