Noni Madueke Leaves Cole Palmer ‘Fuming’ With Hilarious Nickname As Arsenal Move Confirmed
Noni Madueke set to join Arsenal in a £52m deal after annoying Chelsea teammate Cole Palmer with a cheeky nickname that left him 'angry'.
Noni Madueke might be swapping blue for red as he gets ready to join Arsenal, but not before leaving his Chelsea teammate and good friend Cole Palmer a little “angry” — all because of a funny nickname.
The 23-year-old winger is set to become Arsenal’s fourth summer signing, with Sky Sports reporting that the Gunners have agreed to pay £48 million plus another £4 million in add-ons for the England international.
Madueke joined Chelsea in January 2023 and scored 20 goals in all competitions. But with limited playing time and new plans at Stamford Bridge, he’s now heading to north London. The forward even left the Chelsea squad early during their Club World Cup campaign — before their win against PSG — to finalise his Arsenal move.
Once the deal is done, he will become the second player to move straight from Chelsea to Arsenal this summer, following in the footsteps of big names like Petr Cech, Willian, Raheem Sterling, and David Luiz.
Madueke and Palmer, who have been friends since their teenage years, won’t be playing together anymore — but their friendship has brought laughs, even some mock frustration.
In a light-hearted chat with former England goalkeeper Ben Foster for Amazon Prime Video, Madueke revealed the cheeky nickname he gave Palmer that always seemed to annoy him.
“The thing about Palmer is that the guy genuinely loves football so much,” Madueke said. “He could be out there on the lawn, just kicking a ball around, from morning till night.”

Then came the punchline: “It’s ‘chippy,’ man. I call him that all the time. He gets angry, but it’s calm. Chippy, that’s him, man. Chippy chips. He’s going to be fuming when he sees this!”
The nickname “Chippy” comes from an old interview Palmer gave to BBC Sport during his first season at Chelsea. When asked about his go-to post-match meal, Palmer said:
“Chinese. Salt and pepper chicken, rice. Not salt and pepper chips, it’s too much that. You know chippy chips? They have to be them chips, or you don’t get them.”
Now that Madueke is heading to Arsenal, he’ll be battling Palmer on the pitch instead of sharing jokes in the dressing room. But even with the rivalry, it’s clear their bond runs deep — and Madueke’s “Chippy” nickname is sure to follow Palmer around, no matter where he plays.
