Real Madrid Plot Shock Move for Man City’s Rodri to Replace Toni Kroos
Spanish giants eye Manchester City star Rodri as Toni Kroos' long-term replacement after midfield struggles this season

Real Madrid are planning to make a big move in the summer as they look to improve their squad by signing Manchester City midfielder Rodri, according to reports from Sport Bild.
After being knocked out of the Champions League at the quarterfinal stage by Arsenal and currently sitting second behind Barcelona in the La Liga title race, the Spanish giants know they need to rebuild and strengthen for next season.
One of the biggest problems for Real Madrid this season has been their midfield. With Toni Kroos retiring last summer and Luka Modric past his prime the team has struggled to control games and connect the midfield with their attack. The lack of creativity and control in that area has clearlly affected their performances both in Europe and domestically.
That is why Madrid are now eyeing Rodri, one of the Premier League’s best midfielders to fill that hole.
Rodri has been a key part of Manchester City’s success over the years. He played a massiive role in their treble-wiinning 2022/23 season and even went on to win the Ballon d’Or award, beating Madrid’s own Vinicius Junior to the award.
Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola has heavily praised Rodri, calling him:
“An unbelievable player. He’s the best midfield player in the world right now – by far.”
His ability to control the tempo of a game, protect the defence, and start attacks makes him one of the most valuable players in the world today.
Rodri has missed a big part of this season with a serious injury, and his absence has been strongly felt. Without him Manchester City have dropped in form, struggling in both the Premier League and the Champions League.
To make matters worse, Kevin De Bruyne is also expected to leave City at the end of the season. Losing both De Bruyne and Rodri in the same summer could be a huge blow for Pep Guardiola’s side.
While Real Madrid want Rodri, one big question remains – would Rodri be open to a move to Madrid after playing for their rivals Atletico Madrid earlier in his career?
The move could upset some fans of Atletico, but for Real Madrid, signing Rodri would send a strong message that they are ready to dominate again.
For now, nothing is confirmed. But if Madrid are serious about replacing Kroos and returning to the top of European football, Rodri might be their perfect solution.
