Ruben Amorim leaves the door open for Shocking Return for United’s Banished Trio

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has revealed he is open to bringing back outcast stars Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Alejandro Garnacho—if the club is unable to sell them before the end of the summer transfer window.

The trio were all left out of United’s squad for the current pre-season tour in the United States, training separately from the main group in what many are now calling the “bomb squad.” Alongside Tyrell Malacia, the three players have been made available for sale as the club looks to balance the books and refresh its squad.

But in a surprising twist, Amorim has made it clear he’s not completely shutting the door on any of them. Speaking openly about the situation, the Portuguese boss explained that while the players are expected to move on, they could be reintegrated into the first team if transfer deals fall through.

“Some players have to find a new place to have more space in the team, and others clearly show they want a new challenge,” Amorim said. “But if we reach a point where they have to join the team, they will—because they are our players.”

The Red Devils are reportedly holding firm on the price tags set for Antony, Sancho, and Garnacho. Amorim said that technical leaders at the club, including Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox, have placed clear valuations on each of the players.

“I know for a fact Omar, Jason, and the club have a number for these players,” he said. “If clubs don’t reach that, they will still be Manchester United players—no doubt about that.”

More Competition Could Be a Blessing

While some may think their return would cause tension, Amorim actually sees it as an opportunity to increase competition within the squad.

“I’m ready to receive the players,” he added. “If they have to fight each other to play, for me, it’s perfect. If you want to play in the World Cup next year, you need to play now. I’m happy because I have more options.”

This statement suggests Amorim is focused on building a competitive and united group, even if some members weren’t part of his original pre-season plans.

He also stressed the importance of creating a healthy atmosphere at the club, something that may be hard to achieve with players who were recently exiled.

“In any team, if you see the best teams in the world, you feel the bond between the players—and that’s really important,” Amorim said. “We need to remind ourselves how special it is to be at Manchester United. For me, it’s the best club in the world.”

The ‘Bomb Squad’ Remains in Limbo

As it stands, Antony, Sancho, Garnacho, and Malacia continue to train away from the main group. Their futures remain uncertain, especially as transfer interest hasn’t turned into concrete bids. Antony, once signed for £85 million from Ajax, has struggled for form and consistency. Sancho has also failed to live up to expectations since his arrival from Borussia Dortmund, and Garnacho—while young and talented—has been the subject of off-field concerns.

United are currently playing in the Premier League Summer Series, with games lined up against West Ham, Everton, and Bournemouth. Amorim will be watching closely as his new-look squad begins to take shape.

Whether the bomb squad trio will be part of that squad come September 1 remains to be seen. But if Amorim’s words are anything to go by, they won’t be left in the cold forever.
