“They Should Be Ashamed” – Pep Guardiola Defends Phil Foden After Shocking Man United Fan Chants
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola slams Manchester United fans for “lack of class” after they aimed disrespectful chants at Phil Foden during the goalless Manchester derby.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was very angry after Sunday’s goalless draw with rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford but it wasn’t the result or the performance that upset him the most.
Instead, Guardiola was left furious with the behavior of some United fans, who aimed disrespectful and personal chants at City star Phil Foden after he was substituted in the second half.

“Lack of class,” Guardiola said after the match. “But it’s not about Manchester United as a club, it’s the people. We are so exposed – managers, players, owners – but bringing someone’s mum into it? That’s a lack of integrity and class. They should be ashamed.”

Guardiola’s anger is completely understandable, Foden, one of the club’s most talented and hard-working players, deserves respect not abuse from the stands, especially when he’s giving his all on the pitch.
As for the game itself, it was a frustrating one for the Blues. City dominated large parts of the match but just could not break down a deep and determined United defence. Despite the frustration, it was clear which team had more control and quality on the ball.
Guardiola may not have said much about the performance, but his defense of Foden shows once again how much he cares about his players and the values of the club.
One thing’s for sure when the return fixture comes around at the Etihad, City fans will be ready to show Foden and the team the love and support they deserve.
